This summer 6 friends and I will be journeying from California to Virginia on a bike ride that will change our lives. We will be biking across country to raise awareness for Alzheimers disease, the sixth leading cause of death in America. I will be driving the utility vehicle the whole way. The rolling hills of Colorado? We woke up this morning at six, packed our gear, and departed from the little Baptist Church we took refuge in last night in Mancos, CO. The drive so far has been nostalgic to say the least. Green hills for miles, covered in trees and pastured valleys, reminds me of my Old Kentucky Home more than any scenery we’ve passed through so far. I’m sure the closer we get to Colorado Springs the more mountainous it will be, but for now I’m comforted with familiar veiws from the driver seat of the Burb (which is in major need of a good cleaning).

I’ve been amazed so far at the generosity of strangers on this trip. Twice we’ve been offered a place to stay and many times we’ve met people that just want to sit down and talk. The other night in a campground somewhere in Arizona, a couple in their sixties walked over to chat. We ended up talking for a couple of hours, listening to their stories about traveling, loving every minute of it. To top that, they pulled out their bluegrass insturments and let me jam along with them for a bit. I may never see these people again. The people I meet on this road may never become much more than strangers. Still, we all have a purpose, and so far God has blessed every conversation.

A couple of the guys quoted a verse from Isaiah this morning- “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40: 30-31

It isn’t until we’ve pushed ourselves to our limit that we realize we can go further. No one can see past the boundaries they make for themselves, unless they reach those walls and see that what’s on the other side is worth the sacrafice.
