This summer 6 friends and I will be journeying from California to Virginia on a bike ride that will change our lives. We will be biking across country to raise awareness for Alzheimers disease, the sixth leading cause of death in America. I will be driving the utility vehicle the whole way. Day 4-May 20, 2010

We have made it to Oceanside, CA! A fellow Fiji, graduate brother of USC, has opened his home to us. Along with excellent accommodations, our grad bro Jeff bought and cooked us dinner tonight. It was a wonderful change from the cramped Burb and greasy fast food that has been dominating the past few days. By the way, our vehicle has been named the “Burb” and our trailer is now going by the strong name of “Sherpa.”

After leaving a lovely Motel 6 behing in Barstow, we made our way to San Diego where we scooped up our two biker buddies (Chaz and Justin) at the airport and hit the nearest burger joint, In and Out Burger..a local fave. After stopping by a few local cycling shops to pick up some more gear, we ended up at this lovely abode in Oceanside.

It’s nice to finally have the whole crew together and be able to discuss the plans for our upcoming week. Watching the guys unload their bikes to do minor maintenance, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of envy. These guys have worked so hard and come so far in a short amount of time. In four days they will embark on a tremendous journey that will test their will and physical ability to withstand the elements. What an opportunity!

“Perseverance means more than endurance— more than simply holding on until the end.”- Oswald Chambers

As the days draw in, I am constantly reminded of the blessings that have littered our lives. May we walk through these next weeks with faith, strength, and purpose, that we can stand tall on the other side of this journey knowing we never settled, knowing every mile was a struggle that could not conquer us.

Goodnight California,
Jordan-FAA
